授業の概要
/Course outline
All students wishing to participate in three short-term overseas programs (Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student exchange in USA, Waikato Pathways culture enrichment program in New Zealand, and DNA internship program in Dalian, China) will take this course in preparation for such programs. Students are required to enter this elective course to be considered for participation in these overseas programs.

The course will prepare students by offering language and cultural preparation for overseas travel and overseas life, and will evaluate students on their return to campus to enhance the result of their experience.

Students will be able to:
Answer questions at airport counters and at immigration controls using English.
Use transportation, ask for help, purchase food items, talk about their health, safety, and medical needs using English.
Understand that cultural differences exist, and be sensitive to the best way to cope with these differences.

○Course goals
To help students become confident travelers and visitors overseas.
To help students to interact with non-Japanese successfully.
To encourage safe, secure, and fruitful overseas experiences.
授業スケジュール
/Class schedule
Students will receive four sessions (koma) of preparation classes before entering one of the international experience programs, and two sessions on their return:

Session 1. Orientation, cultural differences, travel English (ticket and luggage, airport inspections, passport control language).

Session 2. Introduction to Digital Storytelling

Session 3. Currencies, health and safety information, survival English (police, medical, banking).

Session 4. Review of previous classes. Sub-sessions for the respective programs, with information gathering exercise and detailed program orientation.

Session 5. Greetings and partings, social language practice. Discussion of strategies to increase understanding. Final question and answer session.

You need to submit a short-term study abroad application package to the Center for Strategic International Programs.
