This course introduces students to philosophy through problems or “puzzles” discussed in the history of the western philosophy. Those problems are typically concerned with the nature of the world, god, mind, and morality: Where did the universe come from? Can we know other people’s minds? Can machines think? What is it to be morally good and bad? What is it to know something? Each class presents one of those philosophical puzzles and we will think through about them. In so doing we will learn the philosophical and analytical way of thinking, which could enable us to think more clearly and critically when we face complicated problems even in the fields other than philosophy. |

The Chinese civilization, which was nurtured around the two major rivers of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River, has an eternal history and ideas suitable for it, and has a vast amount of literature and culture. They approach us with overwhelming brilliance and depth, no matter how we cut out any era. It is the origin of Japanese culture, the origin of Oriental culture. It is said that Chinese literature can only be completed in one subdivision unless it is a scholarship of eight sects (one cannot be mastered unless you are proficient in all genres). It is a profound and irrelevant discipline that covers all fields of academic literature. For example, the original Chinese literature includes even science fields such as medicine, flora and fauna, astronomy, and physics. Li Haku, Du Fu, The Analects and Sangokushi are just a few of the Chinese literature. Of course, in the short lecture, I do not have the opportunity to touch Chinese literature in the field of science, but I have conveyed the understanding and understanding of the shaman (ancient magician) called "shrine celebration", which can be said to be the origin of various cultures. We would like to learn about the medium "Kanji" and the world of " Storytelling " and "Chinese poetry" that have blossomed as ideas and literature. |

You will be required to take notes on the matters and content written on the board every hour. Literary, cultural, and artistic ideas are very important even for science students. For example, Hideki Yukawa, the first Japanese to win the Nobel Prize in Physics, and Hideo Itokawa, the father of Japanese rocket development and space development, both loved Chinese writing and art. In particular, Yukawa often mentions that he was greatly influenced by Chinese literature such as "Laozi" and "Zhuangzi" in his idea of quantum mechanics. From this lecture, learn not only cultural knowledge but also oriental ideas and perspectives. |

Featuring Japan art from prehistoric times to the present day with cross-sectional themes that transcend eras, artists, and genres, students learn about the background of their works, the trends of the recipient class, cultivate the knowledge and sensitivity to appreciate past cultural heritage and contemporary works of art, and cultivate creative ideas and perspectives, rather than chronological art history and artist theory. In addition, it is hoped that students will deepen their understanding of the culture of the Aizu region, broaden their understanding of social participation through art, and reflect the ideas and insights they have gained through the lectures in their own research areas. |

The gender and sexuality studies use social-scientific approaches to matters related to the sexes such as biological sexes, psychosexuality and sociosexuality, sexual desires, and sexual behaviors. As people's lives change rapidly, topics related to gender, feminism, and sexual minorities are attracting more attention than ever before. With the decline of Japan's gender gap index and the enactment of the Act on Promotion of Understanding of Sexual Minorities, it can be said that the importance of learning about gender has increased in recent years. On the other hand, on the Internet, it is not rare to see arguments being developed based on assumptions that are contrary to the facts. This course provides knowledge about gender/sexuality that we should know today, and deepens our consideration based on concrete facts, data, and analysis. The latest textbook, "基礎ゼミ ジェンダースタディーズ" will be used in the class, and students will deepen their understanding using work based on familiar questions (each chapter title of the textbook) as the subject of each lesson in the syllabus. Some lessons will deal with the theme of sexual violence (if it is difficult to attend, students will be allowed to leave the relevant lesson). |

We will evaluate according to the degree of achievement of goals 1 to 4. In order to acquire credits (pass (C or higher)), ⒈After understanding the guarantee of human rights in the Constitution of Japan, about 60% or more of the overall picture can be explained logically. ⒉After understanding the system governing the country in the Constitution of Japan, be able to logically explain about 60% or more of the overall picture. ⒊ Be able to explain the relationship between the mechanism of governing the country and the guarantee of human rights without contradiction at the level of logic that can be said to be reasonable. ⒋ Be able to explain the process of establishment of the Constitution of Japan at a level that can be said to be reasonable. Final exams and confirmation tests (and/or assignments) are used as a means of evaluating grades. As a guide, 70 points for the final exam and 30 points for the confirmation test (and/or assignments) will be used as a percentage of the grade evaluation. |

The purpose of this lecture is to learn the analytical perspective and the framework for understanding today's world and Japan, which are at a turning point in light of the spread of coronavirus infection. In this case, the class will be conducted while focusing on the domestic and international situation surrounding Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. "International Relations" is an academic field that science students are not familiar with, but we plan to develop classes while giving consideration to students who do not have basic knowledge of politics, economics, diplomacy, and security issues. In principle, classes are centered on lectures, but we would like to actively incorporate research training, group discussions, and individual presentations. We also want to take enough time to explain current affairs, which are attracting attention in newspapers and news, in order to motivate students to learn. [Competency Codes] C-HS-001 The purpose of this lecture is to learn the analytical perspective and the framework for understanding today's world and Japan, which are at a turning point in light of the spread of coronavirus infection. In this case, the class will be conducted while focusing on the domestic and international situation surrounding Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. "International Relations" is an academic field that science students are not familiar with, but we plan to develop classes while giving consideration to students who do not have basic knowledge of politics, economics, diplomacy, and security issues. Achievement goal at the end of class: 1. You will have a certain understanding of the analytical perspective and the framework of consideration of international relations. 2. Sociology of local community is a subject of social science which studies the social system and regional challenges in local society. This course is designed to learn the challenges local community is facing now and regional contribution by ICT. In addition, this course adopts presentation to understand them as the problem of your own local area. Specifically, this course in the first half is designed to study the social background and the present situation of a vacant house problem as local problem. After learning this, this course has students present now situation of vacant house problems and its solution in your own local area. this course in the second half is designed to study the cases of regional contribution and the challenges by using the digital video game (especially “serious game” to solve social problem) and the digital craft (3D printer, laser cutter, and electrical works) as regional contribution by ICT. After learning this, this course has students present your solution by using these for local problems in your own area. Through lectures and active learning, this course will help to develop an understanding about the relationship between ICT and local society. |

The course is designed to help participants understand essential topics in venture business and entrepreneurship, and to build business plans for their venturing business. After dealing with the managerial process on venture business, including entrepreneurships and strategy, effective methods for creating business plans and presentations are discussed. In order to better understand the associations between theories and practices within and outside the country, visual aids and field research methods will be effectively installed, and entrepreneurs will discuss their histories during the semester. In addition, opportunities for group research will develop participants’ communication skills, and business planning process will support intense comprehension of entrepreneurial practices related to theories and regional characteristics. |

If students have not taken or completed Business Strategy prior to this course, they will be required to read textbook 5 or 6 in 'References' below. The schedule is subject to change depending on progress. An outline for the team project will be announced in Session 1. You can start working on the project with your team members based on the contents in subsequent sessions. In Session 6, lectures will be provided on methods for field research and presentation to guide participants for creating presentations on their research plans. An entrepreneur will provide feedback on participants’ business plans in Session 14. The assignment for the team project will be considered the final paper only when the number of the teams increases. Please ask the instructor when special help is required in role play and group discussions. |

Mental health is the study of people's mental health. Students will learn the fundamentals to be able to produce their own mental health during their school years in this class. It will also examine prevention and countermeasures for mental disorders and diseases that may occur during adolescence and adulthood. It also provides an opportunity to learn about the relationship between exercise and mental health and to think about appropriate exercise. |
