The AY 2008 Entrance Ceremony
The University of Aizu held its entrance ceremony for AY 2008 at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2.
The names of all 323 new students, 257 for the School of Computer Science and Engineering,
55 for the Master's Program of the Graduate School of Computer Science and Engineering and 11 for
the Doctoral Program, were read and President Tsunoyama announced their admission into the University.
President Tsunoyama gave a speech at the ceremony saying that "The University has established a new curriculum
that promises to respond to future careers of students and the diversified needs of society. Through this
new curriculum and the use of English for education at the University, a global common language, I believe
that these students will become internationally-viable human resources and take off from Aizu to the world."
Fukushima Governor Yuhei Sato and other guests also delivered congratulatory addresses. Mr. Takatoshi Akiyama
from the School of Computer Science and Engineering and Mr. Kazuki Endo from the Master's Program of the Graduate
School of Computer Science and Engineering gave an oath on behalf of the new students.
Group photos of all new students in the undergraduate school were taken, and scenes of current students
handing out flyers describing club activities were also seen after the ceremony. Everyone seemed to be very excited
about their life on campus which had just started.
