Establishment of the Core and Information Technology Center

The Core and Information Technology Center (CITEC) has been established within the University of Aizu for a period of five years from FY1999. It has been established to facilitate implementation of research projects that the University will undertake as part of a national project,``The Gigabit Network for Research and Development", which aims at realizing a next generation ultra high-speed network.

With the vice-president of the University, Dr. Ikegami, acting as Center Director, part-time and full-time faculty members will supervise research projects and collaborate with scientific research institutes, both in Japan and overseas, to conduct experiments and research using the gigabit networks.

In addition to leading to the creation of important networks with external scientific research institutes, implementation of this project is expected to result in the University contributing to the formation of a highly information-oriented society for the 21st century.
