Town Meeting in Fukushima

ĦĦTown Meetings, visits by the Cabinet members to local cities designed to hold direct conversations with citizens, are conducted in various parts of the country in order to execute the structural reform proposed by Prime Minister Koizumi. In Fukushima, the town meeting was held at the auditorium of The University of Aizu on September 23, 2001. Mr. Omi, Minister of State for Okinawa and Northern Territories and Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, Mr. Takebe, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mr. Sugiura, Senior Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Nono, Senior Vice Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare, attended the meeting and had active discussions with representatives and participants from the prefecture. The participants listened to the speakers with earnestness as ministers referred to current topics, such as the terrorists attacks in the United States, Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (mad cow disease) etc.
