Standards for Promotion of Assistant Instructors to Assistant Professors within the University

The standards regarding promotion of assistant instructors who have educational backgrounds and research achievements equivalent to the requirements for the assistant professor position were determined. Hiroshi Kihara, assistant instructor (The Center for Mathematical Sciences) and Ken Nakazawa, assistant instructor (The Center for Cultural Research and Studies) were recognized as eligible and will be promoted to assistant professor of April 1, 2001.

Standards regarding promotion of assistant instructors to assistant professors are as follows:

【Departments・Center for Mathematical Sciences・Information Systems and Technology Center】

  1. The candidate is of exceptional character with a high level of    insight, and has a good work record.
  2. The candidate has made a significant contribution to university    education in areas such as exercise teaching, and to university    management such as active participation in committees.
  3. The candidate has a Ph.D. in a field of science and/or engineering.
  4. The candidate has a recommendation for promotion from the department or center that he/she has been placed in.
  5. The candidate has two or more academic papers (refereed) or equivalent presentations at international conferences.

【Center for Cultural Research and Studies】

  1. The candidate is of exceptional character with a high level of insight, and has a good work record.
  2. The candidate has made a significant contribution to university    education in areas such as practical teaching, and to university    management such as active participation in committees.
  3. The candidate has a Master's degree in his/her field of    specialization, in addition to exceptional knowledge and experience in this field.
  4. The candidate has a recommendation for promotion from the Center for Cultural Research and Studies.
  5. The candidate has an evaluation on her/his academic papers from two different researchers of the same field of specialization from inside and/or outside of the university.
