Establishment of the University of Aizu Committee for Reorganization of the University into a Public University Corporation as a step towards reorganization of the University of Aizu

At a press conference held at the beginning of the year, the Prefectural Governor expressed the Prefecture's intention to reorganize prefectural universities by April 2006. Consequently, the Prefecture established the Headquarters to Promote Reorganization of Prefectural Universities, comprising the Vice-Governor, the Presidents of both universities, and a number of other people, in January, as the entity to implement reorganization of the prefectural universities. In the midst of such moves, the University established the University of Aizu Committee for Reorganization of the University into a Public University Corporation in January, to carry out concrete deliberations towards its reorganization.
This committee comprises 12 members appointed by the University President, and has Professor Atsunobu Sasaki as its chairperson and Professor Kazuyuki Saito as its vice-chairperson. Moreover, to facilitate specialized deliberations on reorganization, four specialized sections on "Rules and Organization", "A Personnel System", "Goals and Strategies" and "Finance and Accounting" were established within the Committee. The Committee has convened four times thus far, and is developing dynamic activities. At the second meeting, a proposal for a Basic Plan for Reorganization of Prefectural Universities was explained by the founder, and a lively discussion towards formation of a collective view ensued.
