Conclusion of an international exchange agreement with Shanghai University
On December 3, 2004, a delegation of this university led by University President Tetsuhiko Ikegami visited Shanghai University to conclude an international exchange agreement
The agreement signed by University President Ikegami and Shanghai University Vice President Li You Mei stipulates promoting further exchange in the following areas |

1 The exchange of information on teaching and academic research activities
2 Providing books, publications and reference material to further teaching and academic research
3 Mutual exchange of faculty members and researchers
4 Mutual involvement of faculty members and researchers in joint research activities
5 Mutual visitation and exchange of students
6 Exchange of information and coordination in promoting the cooperation between industry and academics |

President Ikegami and Vice President Li held a discussion along with the signing ceremony. President Ikegami stated that the conclusion of the agreement with Shanghai University was a joyous occasion, and it would be nice if the exchange could some day in the future result in the establishment of venture companies
Vice President Li said computer science is important also for economic advancement, and that the conclusion of an agreement with the University of Aizu was gratifying

Researcher Invited From The Saint Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics
In accordance with a concluded exchange agreement, researcher Alexander Shtuchkin of the Saint Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO, Russia) is residing with our university from January 31 through March 28 to take part in various exchange programs

Mr. Shtuchkin is a graduate student conducting research under the tutelage of Prof. I. Gurov who visited the university the previous academic year to take part in academic exchange. He is currently jointly researching the topic of "Understanding Motion Images" with Prof. Ryuichi Oka of the university
Mr. Shtuchkin led a lecture class on programming for students of the university from February 14-18, held a presentation summarizing the research of IMTO on February 28, and was the lecturer of an open classroom for high school students in the prefecture on March 8

Upon the term expiring, an election of the president was held on Wednesday, February 16, 2005, with three candidates in the running. But as no candidate had the majority of valid votes a runoff election for the two candidates with the most votes took place on Wednesday, February 23, 2005, and the current President, Tetsuhiko Ikegami, was duly re-elected |

・The University of Aizu Entrance Examinations
The Computer Science and Engineering Department selected its candidates for admission upon recommendation on December 4. There were 66 candidates applying from high schools in the prefecture and 48 were accepte
The first-period examination for general selection was held on February 25, for 594 applicants, with the testing administered in two halls in Aizu and Tokyo, and the announcement of successful applicants on March 5.
The second-period examinations will be held on March 12
The examination for the Graduate School (second 2005 spring term and first 2005 autumn term) was held on February 5, with 13 candidates accepted into the Maser's Program and 3 candidates accepted into the Doctoral Program

・Graduation (Undergraduate and Master) Theses Presentation
Presentations and examination of the graduating thesis for the Computer Science And Engineering Department and masters thesis for the Computer Science and Engineering Research Program were conducted from February 14 through 22
The presentation involved 225 undergraduate students and 66 graduate students in the masters degree program

・IT specialist course
An IT specialist course has been offered to assist in raising the skills of personnel involved in the IT industry, and to nurture and secure the human resources capable of adapting to the soon-to-arrive ubiquitous age. This academic year, 15 people in Fukushima City and another 15 in Iwaki City are attending the course based on a 120-hour training curriculum
