  Receipt of a subsidy worth from the Japan Lottery Association has facilitated campus improvements.
   ¦Improvements made to the University will be introduced on Thursday, June 30 on "info-Takarakuji (TV Asahi, 21:51~21:52)".
  yThe University of Aizu Nature Park Improvement Projectz
   University of Aizu park facilities have been improved with the aim of enabling both staff and students at the University and members of the local community to use and enjoy them, and to protect and nurture our natural environment for generations to come.

  ›Walking paths
  EA walking path has been built around the outside of the University. The area around Waterside Park has also been made accessible to wheelchairs.@

  ›Tree planting
  EThe Aizu Clan implemented a forestry protection in order to prohibit the felling of trees with the aim of securing forestry resources and lumber for the Clan. Trees said to have been protected by this order have been planted.

  ›Improvement of the biotope
  EAdditional aquatic plants have been planted in Waterside Park to furbish an environment in which people can come into contact with and study nature.

   The auditorium has been equipped with a portable screen projector and a DVD player.

  yVideo Exhibitions in the Administration Building's Loungez
   The lounge has been equipped with a 61 inch plasma display unit, a DVD, a video and a PC, enabling it to be used for video exhibitions and presentations.

  yAn Audiovisual System for the Libraryz
   A DVD audiovisual system accessible to university and non-university users alike has been installed.

  yRefurbishment of the University-Business Innovation Centerz
   The entrance hall has been equipped with a 150 inch large screen, a high intensity liquid crystal projector and a 9.1ch speaker facilitating impressive visual displays and realistic sound. The sound creation room has also been refurbished.

Relocation of the Secretariat for the Steering Committee of the National High School Personal Computer Competition

   The Secretariat for the Steering Committee of the National High School Personal Computer Competition (PC Koshien) was relocated to the University of Aizu on April 1, 2005. PC Koshien will be held for the third time this year, and faculty members are kindly requested to cooperate with the preparation of questions and management of the competition.
   The finals of PC Koshien 2005 will be held in the University of Aizu Auditorium on the weekend of November 5~6.

›Doctoral Theses Presentation
   The AY2004 spring doctoral theses presentation was held in the Lecture Hall on Friday, March 18, 2005 for the four students awarded doctoral degrees this spring. Two of the four students awarded doctoral degrees were international students. Each student gave a thirty-minute presentation including a description of the process involved in completing his/her thesis and words of advice and encouragement from their research advisors and Dean of the Graduate School.

›Graduation Ceremony
   The ninth graduation ceremony for the University of Aizu School of Computer Science and Engineering and the thirteenth completion ceremony for the Graduate School of Computer Science and Engineering were held in the University of Aizu Auditorium on March 22, 2005. The ceremony marked a new start for 225 undergraduate students (139 from the Department of Computer Software, and 86 from the Department of Computer Hardware), 66 master's students (38 from the Graduate Department of Information Systems and 28 from Graduate Department of Computer Systems) and 4 doctoral students (3 from the Graduate Department of Information Systems and 1 from the Graduate Department of Computer Systems). The President's Prize was awarded to Atsushi Hasegawa of the Department of Computer Software and Akira Sato of the Graduate Department of Computer Systems.

Graduation Ceremony

›Entrance Ceremony
   The AY2005 entrance ceremony was held in the University of Aizu Auditorium on April 4, 2005. This year's intake comprised 248 undergraduate students (247 selected from 765 applications and 1 transferees) and 73 graduate students (65 master's students and 8 doctoral students). Of the new intake of undergraduate students, 119 are from Fukushima Prefecture and 129 from other prefectures.

Entrance Ceremony

›Public Lectures
   "Algorithms and Programming for High School Students" was held between Monday, March 28 and Wednesday, March 30 (Lecturers: Assistant Professor Kentaro Yoshioka and Mr. Yutaka Watanobe, PhD Student), and this was avidly attended by 32 students ranging from newcomers to programming to those preparing for PC Koshien and students planning to enter the University of Aizu.
