Introduction of new members:
Prof. Chen introduced the new members of the committee of 1997-1998, Profs. M. Osano, A. Taubin, K. Gotoh, T. Orr, T. Watanabe, Q. Chen, S. Sedukhin, H. Sagawa, and Mr. K. Kokubun (General Affairs Section). Profs. T. Orr and T. Watanabe did not attend the meeting because of their busy schedule.
Election of new chairperson
The members attended the meeting elected Prof. S. Sedukhin as new chairperson of the committee. There is no opposite opinion.
How to review the achievements in Graduate School. Necessity to make a ``Graduate School Annual Review?"
The opinion of Profs. Taubin, Sagawa, Chen, and Sedukhin on this matter is that it is not necessary to make a separate version of Annual Review for Graduate School. Because all faculty members of the Graduate School are also in the undergraduate school, the current Annual Review is enough. But it was suggested to create achievement home pages for the Graduate School in our WWW server.
Explanation of the Budget Request Process for 1998 academic year
Mr. Iino, Mr. Ogata (from administrative office) and Ms. Hasunuma (translator) attended the meeting, and gave some explanations on how to request budget for the next year. Depending on the prefecture government's information, the budget for the university next year may decrease, because the university has passed the start-up period. The university has been asked to review the budget for the expenses from zero.

The members discussed a proposal for the budget of the next year, and decided to request the same amount of money as that of this year tentatively.
The members approved that
the general publicity expenses of this year will be used to make the
english version of the university pamphlet and to update the Faculty Profile.
The members mentioned that
the university should have a monthly report.
Prof. Osano pointed out that it is very important to have some information
exchange inside the university like personnel affairs, the changing of
person in charge, and so on.
Committee members agreed that the monthly report will be beneficial to the
university. Prof. Sagawa suggested that the monthly report is an urgent issue
and the general affairs section should be in charge of the report.
Committee members agreed that the committee will cooperate with Mr. Kokubun
who will be in charge of this issue.
Acknowledgements
Prof. Chen as the secretary of the committee, expressed the acknowledgements to Prof. A. Taubin (the chairperson) and all other members of the committee of 1994--1996, for their work, and suggested the mementoes for the committee members.
