ISPJ Journal, 44(3):700-708, 2003. In realtime interactive distance lectures or seminars, the treatment of materials data(teaching materials orpresentation materials) is important. Thispaper proposes a technique for presentation using still pictures as electronic slides in distance lectures or seminars. Using this technique, the attendees can handle the material data like in a traditional face-to-face classroom. A distance education support system, RIDEE, designed based on this proposal was being used in an actual distance lecture course, and the effectiveness of this proposal was confirmed. |

This paper proposes a SQ3R-based method to enhance the educatnional psychology-based learning support in individual web-based distance learning system. To apply the SQ3R method to web-based system, we developed a support system, which (1) devides the learning activities to five stages, (2)provides a tool set for each stage, (3) catches the learner's learning actions and understanding in each stage and (4) points out the weak point of the learner and navigates him to a suitable stage. The analysis of an experiment using the porposed method shows that it can help the learners to keep their attention and learning motivation than normal web-based learning systems. |

International Journal of Computer Processing of Oriental Languages, 15(1):19-31, 2002. In Japan, most of real time distance learning systems overJGN(Japan Gigabit Network) are the simple application of TV-conference system equipped with high-quality audio/video transmission equipment. Such systems are difficult to add new distance educational support such as real time floor control, and are insufficient and ineAEciency to perform real time distance lecture or seminar when the number of the system sites getting larger. This paper proposes a Working Model for distributed computer systems supporting real time interactive distance lectures or seminars over JGN. As an application of the working model, functions for floor control and tele-presentation were discussed. The utility of the proposed working model was confirmed with an experimental system. |

In The International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA2003), pages 775-781, Xian, China, Mar. 2003. IEEE-CS, IEEE-CS. Realtime and interactive distance education support systems are increasingly being requested by society for educational activities. But it is necessary to systematically consider the architecture of those systems. RIDEE is a platform supporting realtime distance education activities over high-speed network. Its effectiveness was verified by experiments and a regular distance lecture course. This paper describes the design of RIDEE, its software implementation and its applications |

In The International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA2003), pages 477-482, Xian, China, Mar. 2003. IEEE-CS, IEEE-CS. Distributed resource allocation is a fundamental problem in construction of distributed systems. Though a lot of distributed algorithms have been developed for the problem, many of them are only designed to satisfy the desired quality of the requested resources, without considering acceptable range of the quality of the requested resources. In this paper, we propose a new distributed algorithm employing a concession method, by which a process can transfer a reserved resource to another process, so that more processes can use the resources in the same time, to increase the efficiency and still keep the satisfaction for the quality of the resources in an acceptable range. We redefine the problem, and give the design and implementation of the algorithm in the paper. |

In 2002 International Workshop on Multimedia Distance Education Systems and Technologies (MDEST2002), pages 420-428, San Francisco, Sep. 2002. Knowledge System Institute, Knowledge System Institute. This paper describes the development and the application of RIDEE-CCP, a communication control platform for constructing realtime and interactive distance education support systems over high-speed networks. The features of RIDEE-CPPare: (1) Support of mesh type and server-client type communication; (2) Support of audio/video and text/image transmission by UDP and TCP; (3) Support of communication system management including failure detection. Using RIDEE-CCP, two subsystems of RIDEE, floor control subsystem(RIDEE-FCS)and slide presentation subsystem(RIDEE-SPS), have been developed and the usefulness of RIDEE-CCP has been proven. |
