Research by faculty and students in the Computer Industry Laboratory was carried out in the fields E-Commerce, UNIX Applications, Genetic Algorithms and Optimization, Artficial Intelligence, Physics and Mathematics. Several articles were published as book chapters, journal-contributions, proceedings-contributions in conferences, and technical reports. Some work is under review in the publication process. The Computer Industry Laboratory is cooperating with other labs in regard to robotics research and students can do applied work in this area under Computer Industry Laboratory faculty supervision.

This paper describes an Electronic Commerce Goods Search System (ECGSS) that has functions that increase the precision of search results through training of the search system and uses a AE liated business transaction processes. The software component architecture for ECGSS also allows the effective deployment of the system on every local business site, in view of the evolving trend in information technology toward easier configuration and re-usability. A general information gathering system with the infrastructure to accept every Internet communication protocol and access control is described. In this aAEliated business transaction model, we classify Internet sites into two groups: a cooperative sites group, and anon-cooperative sites group. While designing the components, we optimized their specifications with respect to the whole architecture analysis, dependencies, and interface types using a component-based software development (CBSD) process. Experiments on the effectiveness of the user training function for the search system and the response time for simple queries for each communication protocol are presented. Comparisons of commercial search solutions and architectural standards of several organizations are also given.

This paper explains the construction of information infrastructure to share product attrbute information among companies on the Internet. The Information infrastructure creates a database for the four attributes of a product: cost, quality, function, and technology.A cross-reference between each database table enables a display of mutual product attribute informatin on the Web. The companies that are involved in the supply chain can share information anywhere to further develop the information infrastructure.
