Freshmen are at a stage in their lives where they are developing their studies and social experiences toward their future goals in the context of new relationships in a changing environment.

Students will encounter many aspects of life, learning, personality, finance, and career that they will need to manage as they work towards their future goals.
While these experiences provide opportunities for personal development in the future, long-term difficulties can interfere with their studies, lives, and subsequent careers.

In addition, most education is classroom-based. A sedentary environment without exposure to fresh air or sunlight for long periods of time can lead to a loss of physical and mental balance.

To avoid being forced into such a difficult situation, students are expected to proactively engage in moderate exercise and sports in their daily lives and to manage the environment and stimuli to condition their physical and mental health.

Wellness refers to the attitudes and behaviors of people who seek to maintain and improve their physical and mental health. Physical fitness is essential for wellness. Positive physical activity is directly linked to promoting physical and mental health and well-being, increasing life expectancy, and reducing the risk of obesity and non-communicable diseases. Therefore, appropriate physical education (PE) based on health and sport science knowledge has the most significant impact on lifelong health and well-being (SDG Goal 3).

Health and sport science courses are designed to help students understand their physical fitness according to their stage of development, based on appropriate health and sport science knowledge, to develop social skills through physical activity and to acquire wellness competencies.

With a focus on the physical and mental adaptation of freshmen to university life, Health and Sport Science Practicum 1 is designed to help them maintain a balanced life through weekly physical activity sessions.

The graduation requirement is to acquire two credits from the field of Health and Sport Science. Health and Sport Science Practicum 1 and Health and Sport Science Practicum 2 are Recommended subjects.

Especially focused on maintaining physical fitness to cope with a decrease of daylight and temperature during winter indoor season.
The basic viewpoints of the educational materials are as follows.
・Recommend swimming exercise to enhance immune function during winter season.
・Recommend racquet sports that activates cognitive functions with strategy through games during winter season.
・The gym size is inadequate for 40 student's activity at the same time.
Therefore, class management is necessary for securing sufficient physical activity time and ensuring safety.
For solving such a problem, a class will divide into some groups.

授業の概要
/Course outline
In the second semester of Health and Sport Science Practice 2, as the seasons change, temperatures that were around 20°C in early autumn drop to below zero with snowfall in winter. Accordingly, the main site of activity changes from outdoors to indoors and the form of activity changes to adapt to the environment while maintaining an appropriate quantity and quality of physical activity.

Considering such seasonal changes in the environment, Health and Sports Science Practicum 2 focuses on developing the competence to objectively reflect on one's own physical fitness and exercise load from a scientific perspective, and to design a well-balanced lifestyle through weekly activities.
