In response to these challenges, this course adopts a health and sports science–based perspective and provides learning experiences across multiple practical activity domains grounded in exercise and sports activities. Through these experiences, students not only discover the enjoyment of physical activity, but also engage in activities while observing and reflecting on their own physical responses, such as fitness level, exercise intensity, and changes in physical condition. By doing so, students learn to recognize and appropriately adjust their activity levels according to their bodily state and surrounding conditions.

By engaging in multiple practical domains, students move beyond the acquisition of specific motor skills and instead develop a foundational ability to compare different activity demands, understand variations in physical load and bodily responses, and make informed decisions about selecting and regulating physical activity in diverse situations.

In addition, through cooperative exercise and sports activities, students gain experience in working with others while respecting rules, thereby fostering communication skills and a collaborative attitude. Reflection and sharing activities are incorporated throughout the course to help students articulate their insights and learning experiences and apply them to subsequent actions.

As an introductory course, this class establishes a foundation for learning through physical activity and aims to promote autonomous and sustainable health-related behaviors (wellness) throughout university life and beyond.

Health and Sports Science Practicum 2 is a practical course offered in the second semester, focusing on physical activity and sports under changing environmental conditions. From early autumn to winter, activity settings gradually shift from outdoor to indoor environments due to decreasing temperatures and snowfall.

In this course, students engage in multiple practicum domains based on a variety of sports and exercise activities, and develop the ability to reflect on their physical fitness and exercise load from a scientific perspective. Through weekly participation, students learn to judge and adjust exercise intensity and activity content according to environmental conditions and physical status.

Using scientific data such as body composition, heart rate, and physical fitness assessments, students objectively understand their physical condition and connect measurement and reflection to proactive health management. This course builds on the exercise habits and awareness developed in Practicum 1 and emphasizes sustainable and self-regulated physical activity.

Health and Sports Science Practicum 3 is a practicum course designed for international students. Through multiple practice domains based on physical and sports activities, this course aims to promote collaborative learning among students with diverse cultural, linguistic, and athletic backgrounds, using sports activities as a shared medium of communication. Differences in language, culture, and prior exercise experience are regarded as valuable learning resources, and mutual understanding through physical activity is emphasized.
Students engage in a variety of physical and sports activities using both indoor and outdoor facilities. Rather than relying solely on verbal explanations, the course encourages communication through shared movement, gestures, demonstrations, and role distribution. Through these practices, students develop the ability to understand one another, adjust their actions to situational demands, and collaborate effectively in intercultural settings.
Scientific data such as body composition measurements, heart rate monitoring, and physical fitness tests are also utilized to help students understand their own physical condition and exercise intensity. By reflecting on these data, students learn to assess their physical status and to plan safe and sustainable approaches to physical activity that suit their individual conditions.
Building on the abilities of noticing and self-adjustment cultivated in Health and Sports Science Practicum 1 and 2, this course emphasizes applying these skills within relationships with others, fostering cooperative practice and intercultural engagement through physical activity.
