授業の概要
/Course outline
This course is designed to provide students with skills and training for 1) improving the English speaking fluency and 2) preparing/giving English presentations. By practicing English as an International Language (EIL), students will be motivated to speak English more confidently and comfortably. This can further boost their confidence in public speaking (presentations).

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
1) increase fluency in English speaking,
2) learn how to prepare/design English presentation materials,
3) learn/practice useful techniques for presentations in various situations, and
4) overcome anxiety in speaking English and in giving oral presentations.

Each class session will be conducted as a combination of lecture and pair/group-work activities.

Class 14. Final project presentation

Preparation: Before Classes 4–6 and 12-13, prepare all necessary drafts prior to the scheduled class dates. Before Classes 9–12, study the discussion questions provided in the LMS before each session.

Review: After Classes 1, 2, 6, and 14, review presentation styles and performances by completing the assigned surveys. After Classes 8-12, review the summary of each intercultural communication session to prepare for the final project presentation.

The typical review/preparation time per session is approximately 3-5 hours.

/Course outline
In this course, learners' awareness of cultural differences and the ways in which these differences are realized in communication will be raised. Learners will practice and develop all four language skills (reading, writing, listening & speaking), and will build their vocabulary. Materials for the course will be provided by the instructor.

Each class session will be conducted as a combination of lecture and group-work activities. The instructor will regularly provide feedback on in-class and assigned activities.

Class 2: Defining “culture” and “cross-cultural communication”
Class 3: Individualism versus collectivism: the work of Hofstede
Class 4: Individualism & collectivism: continued
Class 5: Hierarchical & democratic cultures
Class 6: Power-distance
Class 7: High versus low-context communication styles: the work of Hall
Class 8: Non-verbal behavior communication & culture
Class 9: Non-verbal communication and culture

Before each class, study and review the assigned materials. Between classes, review the materials provided in each session, and complete assigned tasks. Typical preparation and review time per session is approximately three-four hours.

This course is designed for intermediate-level Japanese learners of English; it is not suitable for advanced English speakers.
All materials are provided by the instructor.
Every student must enroll in the course through Moodle. Please check Moodle for detailed information on assignments or other course information. It is required that students take quizzes and exams individually; cheating/plagiarizing other’s work will not be tolerated.
There are no set requirements. However, learners are expected to have completed 1st and 2nd year English core courses.

授業の概要
/Course outline
This course develops students’ ability to give professional company presentations in English. It focuses on how to describe a company’s profile, products, achievements, and future goals in a structured, clear, and confident manner.
Students learn presentation design, language organization, and intercultural communication skills used in global business contexts. The course culminates in a 15-minute recorded presentation with peer interaction.

Practice business communication skills through a mock interview with AI.

Week 1 (Lecture): Introduction to Company Presentations - Course overview, sample presentation videos, greetings & self-introduction

Week 2 (Lecture & Exercise): Company Overview & Local Company Research—Students select a local company to investigate and research the company's background, products, size, and mission—Researching a Company for Job Interviews

Week 3 (Lecture & Exercise): Presenting Products/Services—Describe products/services, features, benefits, and target market

Week 4 (Lecture & Exercise): Presenting Company Research—Students will explain why they have chosen this company. SWOT Analysis
(Persuasive presentation on why I want to interview at this company?)

Week 5 (Lecture & Exercise): Local Start-up Company Presentation (Aizu revitalization)—Students prepare a 12-15-minute presentation about their local planned start-up company at Aizuwakamatsu

Week 6 (Lecture & Exercise): Mock Interview Practice with AI—Students practice answering interview questions using ChatGPT or other AI tools

Week 7 (Lecture & Exercise): Video Resume Presentation (Recorded)—15-minute video resume with peer review; Q&A session

履修上の留意点
/Note for course registration
Moderate English speaking skills are required.

Each class meeting will consist of an initial lecture component, occupying approximately 30-40% of the class time, followed by a practical exercise session in the remaining period.

Preparation/Review: Before each class, prepare by studying the lecture materials and the relevant textbook pages for the content indicated in the course plan. Also, complete any unfinished exercises before the subsequent class. The typical preparation/review time per session is 3-4 hours.
