University-Business Cooperation Forum "Intellectual Property Management Seminar"
The University of Aizu held a University-Business Cooperation Forum event the "Intellectual Property Management
Seminar" at the University-Business Innovation Center, from 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22. Approximately
20 people, including faculty members and students of the University, participated in the forum. Mr. Akihiko Shigeta,
an intellectual property management adviser to the University, gave a lecture titled "Management of Intellectual
Property".
Creation of new technologies and their application are very important for implementation of strengthening industrial
competitiveness and lasting economic development. Moreover, knowledge of intellectual property and its management is
also necessary for corporations to conduct stable business operations with regard to protection and application of developed
technologies. The University is striving to improve its intellectual property management system and provided this opportunity
to help students recognize the importance of this issue in starting their own businesses and venture companies.
During the forum, the lecturer gave an explanation of patent rights by citing some familiar products and introduced
actual examples of patented inventions of IT-related systems and software.
