Short-Term Study Program for Students from Hallym University, Korea

Four students from the College of Information and Electronic Engineering of Hallym University, Korea, came to Japan for a short-term study program lasting about one month with Associate Professor Jung-pil Shin of the University of Aizu. During their time in Aizu, they audited lectures at the University and had on-site inspection tours of an elderly healthcare facility and factories in the Aizu Region.
The Korean Ministry of Education has encouraged regional universities to establish joint foundations with municipal governments and local companies for the purpose of nurturing human resorces in areas which require development of the region. Following this policy, Hallym Univesiry set up a foundation aiming at fostering specialists for senior-friendly industries, which corresponds with diversified needs from the aged by an increase in the population ratio of seniors in the region. These four students were selected for the overseas training program provided by the foundation and focused on the field of u-Health (Ubiquitous Healthcare) area. It is believed that u-Health will be one of the key industries in the aged society through development of remote devices utilizing ubiquitous technology such as monitoring systems for health information of the aged, which can be used at any time and any place. The University was chosen as a place for the students' overseas training in advanced technology.
During their visit to Aizu-Wakamatsu, they stayed at a dormitory in the city and participated in their short-term study through the 4th of February.
