Announcement of the Development of a 3-D Imaging System for English Pronunciation, "Display of Articular Movement using 3-D Animation"
Professor Hisako Murakawa of the Center for Language Research, the University of Aizu, made an announcement on the
development of a 3-D Imaging System for English Pronunciation, "Display of Articular Movement using the 3-D Animation,"
and gave an explanation and demonstration of the system to the press on Tuesday, March 4, at 10:00 a.m.
The system was developed for the purpose of enabling people to acquire correct pronunciation, through display of very detailed of lip
and tongue movements from a perspective in which the speaker is facing the viewer, and in profile, through use of 3-D animation.
At present, the system focuses on the pronunciation of the "R" sound, which is often said that Japanese find difficult to pronounce.
The University has been focusing on English education, which is necessary for the study of Computer Science and Engineering, and has also
aimed to foster human resorces with global perspectives in preparation to work in an international society. Professor Murakawa
emphasized the importance of speaking English with refined pronunciation to make it easier for listeners to understand what the speaker wishes
to convey. As a result of thorough English education, many of the University's graduates have studied abroad, and Professor Murakawa
introduced the current activities of these students during her meeting with the press.
