The "Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize" Commemorative Lecture and "African Fair"
A commemorative lecture by Dr. Brian Greenwood and Professor. Miriam K. Were, who were winners of the
"Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize" to award individuals with outstanding achievements in the
field of medical research and health services, was held at the Auditorium of the University of Aizu.
In conjunction with the lecture, the "African Fair" was also held to introduce African culture
and support activities for Africa. The University Cafe provided Ghana-style meals and desserts, a country
associated with Dr. Noguchi. There were many visitors at the fair and University students also
enjoyed the dishes. Some students who tried the dessert set which included a Ghanan cacao drink and kati cake
made with peanut and sugar, commented "It had a rich flavor and was very tasty", "It was very
different from what I had expected in a good way".
At the site of the fair, a group of international students of the University held a fund-raising event for victims
of the Sichuan Earthquake.
