A visit by President Tsunoyama to Eastern Europe and Signing of General Agreements with Two Universities in Poland

On Tuesday, September 23, 2008, President Shigeaki Tsunoyama returned to Japan from his visit to Hungary and Poland, which started from Saturday, September 13, 2008. During the visit, he participated in a conference held in Hungary, the "7th International Conference on Global Research and Education (Inter-Academic 2008)," and participated in a signing ceremony at the Polish Japanese Institute of Information Technology (President Jerzy Pawel Nowacki) and Gdansk University of Technology (Henryk Krawczyk).
At the conference in Hungary, President Tsunoyama gave a speech on educational programs of the Graduate School at the University of Aizu, and cultivated academic relationships with other participants from major universities in Eastern Europe. At each signing ceremony, the University of Aizu reached agreements with the two aforementioned universities in Poland regarding mutual visits by faculty members and students, exchange of academic information, and, further promotion of international cooperation by preparing detailed working programs. This trip to Eastern Europe was made with an aim to strengthen ties between universities in Eastern Europe and the University of Aizu.
Vice President Nikolay Mirenkov and Assistant Professor Yuko Kesen accompanied the President on this visit.


The Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology
The Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology was founded in 1994, and is located in Warsaw, Poland. It is a private university offering eight faculties such as the Faculty of Information Technology and Faculty of Information Management. The total number of enrolled students at the Institute is approximately 1,800. The Institute was founded by the governments of Poland and Japan with the aim of development of computer techniques. The institute is now one of the top-class universities in Poland in the field of information technology.
Gdansk University of Technology
Gdansk University of Technology was founded in 1904, and is located in Gdansk, Poland. It is a national university offering 9 faculties such as the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The total number of enrolled students at the University is approximately 17,500. The Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics is the largest faculty in the university, offering 16 departments, and there are about 3,000 students studying in the faculty. The faculty has been highly evaluated in scientific research by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
