Rice Donation to International Students
Donations of 30-kilogram bags of rice from 8 rice farmers living in Aizu-Wakamatsu City and Inawashiro Town were made for international students studying at the University of Aizu through the Aizu Sakura-Lanka Association (Representative: Ms. Marii Igarashi). The presentation ceremony was held on Monday, December 22, with attendance of Ms. Igarashi and 4 representatives of the contributors. Assistant Professor Anh T. Pham (President of the Support Association for International Students at the University of Aizu) and 3 representative students from Columbia, Sri-Lanka and South Korea received the rice directly from the contributors. The rice donation program started in 2001, and Assistant Professor Pham expressed his gratitude, stating that "This continuous donation of rice has been great support for international students, particularly those living in difficult conditions. I appreciate the kindness of all those involved with the donations."
