Fukushima Environment and Energy Fair 2008
The Fukushima Environment and Energy Fair 2008 (organized by Fukushima Prefectural Government and Fukushima Citizens Earth-Friendly Council)
was held for 2 days on the 20th and 21st of December at BIG PALATTE FUKUSHIMA in Koriyama. A total of 141 environment/energy-related companies
and organizations introduced their state-of-art technologies for reduction of environmental burdens and development of new energy resources.
The University of Aizu participated in the fair to introduce research on "local micro-scale environmental simulation and its application
to Aizu area" which has been conducted as a part of the University's regional development project.
The project aims to study application effects of local meteorological analysis to agriculture and water-use in Aizu area. Concerns about effects
on farm products caused by global warming have been raised by people in the area. It is thought that applications related to weather prediction
to environmentally-accepted production planning will be useful in stabilizing product quality and supply, which will help increase convenience
and revitalize regional industries. The University of Aizu is expected to contribute to the local communities through its advanced IT technologies.
At the site, Professor Haruo Terasaka of the Information Systems and Technology Center explained the project outline and also gave an analysis of
water flow in Inawashiro Lake through a poster presentation and a demonstration.
