President Tsunoyama met researchers of the Russian Academy of Sciences
On June 10, The University President Tsunoyama visited "Akademgorodok", the academic city built near Novosibirsk, Russia,
and met researchers of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS) to talk about further cooperation.
The following members of SB RAS participated in the meeting: the Vice Rector of Novosibirsk State University (NSU) Fedotov
(in charge of informatisation), Prof. Goncharov (the Dean of the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics, NSU), Prof. Lavrentev Jr.
(Leading Researcher at Sobolev Institute for Mathematics SB RAS, the Dean of the Department of Information Technologies, NSU) and
Prof. Khoroshevsky (Siberian State University of Telecommunications and Informatics). Prof. Lavrentev, Jr. is a grandson of
Academician Lavrentev who is the first Chair of SB RAS and also the founder of Akademgorodok.
The President visited the Institute of Computational Technologies (ICT) SB RAS, a pioneer of computer research in Russia on June 11
and met Academician RAS Prof. Shokin, DR, the Leader (Director), ICT SB RAS. He also visited the laboratory of Prof. Malyshkin,
Head of the Department of Supercomputer Software at the Institute of Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Geophysics SB RAS.
Prof. Malyshkin worked at the University of Aizu as a visiting researcher of Active Knowledge Engineering Laboratory from January
to March this year, and will be visiting the University this fall.
In the meeting on June 10, Russian researchers explained the close collaboration in education and research between SB RAS and NSU
as well as global university-business cooperation with Hewlett-Packard in America.
They also proposed future collaboration with the University of Aizu, since NSU was selected as a core university in computer science
and technology by Shanghai Cooperation Organisation which promotes international cooperation among Russia, China and Central Asia.
We expect that further collaboration with SB RAS institutes and NSU will follow the presidential visit in due course.
Prof. Sedukhin (the Head of the Division of Computer Engineering) and Assist. Prof. Hashida (Center for Strategy of International Programs)
accompanied the President on this visit.
