Conclusion of a Fundamental Agreement Regarding the Earth Simulator
On Thursday, July 27, 2006, a fundamental agreement for promotion of "comprehensive cooperation for potential contribution to local communities through research using the Earth Simulator" was signed between the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) and the University of Aizu.
A signing ceremony took place at the University Auditorium. Mr. Yasuhiro Kato, the Chairperson of the Board of Executives of JAMSTEC and President Shigeaki Tsunoyama signed the agreement.
Following the signing ceremony, Mr. Watanabe, Program Director of JAMSTEC, kindly gave attendees a demonstration of the Earth Simulator. Students from Eiwa Elementary School who have been active in environmental conservation were invited to this ceremony. They were listening intently to the explanation.
This agreement will help people in local communities make use of the Earth Simulator not only for meteorological simulations, but also for agricultural/industrial applications and education of environmental conservation.
