President |
It is my great pleasure to bring you our Annual Review 2007 which reports our activities during the academic year 2007. We aimed at further globalization of the university and its contribution to the development of local communities. To achieve these goals, we carried out the following activities in the academic year 2007. In August 2007, the rst Aizu IT Summer Forum was held at the university to promote information transmission from Aizu to all over Japan to create awareness and enhance recognition of Aizu as a "brand" as a leading area in IT. Approximately 300 people from in and outside Fukushima prefecture participated in the forum. Special lectures on the Earth Simulator, technological strategies of Microsoft Corporation, project management, etc. were given, and the three tracks: "venture/local businesses", "advanced/ service technology" and "web technology" were offered. In October, new Master's program, the Program for Leading Edge IT Specialists, for nurturing leading-edge IT specialists in an international environment started with the grant from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology under the "Support Program for Improving Graduate School Education." In this program, practical skills and knowledge are provided through cooperation with private companies, universities, etc. from Japan and overseas. The Center for Strategy of International Programs hosted the symposium "Future Perspectives of International Cooperation Programs in the University of Aizu" in February 2008. We have now cooperative agreements with 30 universities overseas and have been promoting active international exchange programs and productive joint-research with these universities for the purpose of global development. The symposium was held to explore the methods of nurturing global human resources and contributing to local communities through international cooperation programs. We hope to make the best use of our results for society and business/industry. My best and warmest regards to all of you. February 23, 2009 Shigeaki Tsunoyama President |
