It is my great pleasure to bring you our 2008 Annual Review which reports our activities during the 2008 academic year. We contemplate further globalization of the university and its contribution to the development of local communities. To achieve these goals, we carried out the following activities in the 2008 academic year. In May, 2008, a proposal by the University of Aizu, the hProgram for Fostering of Global IT Leaders from Aizu, the International IT Nisshinkanh has been accepted for the Project for Fostering of High Level International Professionals, AY 2008 hCareer Development Program for Students from Asiah supported jointly by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The purpose of the hCareer Development Program for Students from Asiah is to promote nurturing of students from Asia with advanced knowledge and a strong desire to work for Japanese companies. Our proposal aims to foster global IT leaders from Aizu who contribute to local communities and are viable from a global perspective with a deep understanding of Japanese and regional (Aizu) cultures, as well as Japanese business culture. Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese students participated in this program. The 2008 ACM/ICPC Asia Regional in Aizu for the World Final was held at the University of Aizu in October. The winning teams from each regional contest advanced to the World Final held in Stockholm, Sweden, in April of 2009. Teams of University of Tokyo and University of Aizu proceeded to the Final. The Center for Strategy of International Programs established cooperative agreements with 42 universities overseas and have been promoting active international exchange programs and productive joint-research. We would like to make the best use of our results for society and business/industry. My best and warmest regards to all of you. January 20, 2010 Shigeaki Tsunoyama President |
