President |
It is my great pleasure to bring you our 2009 Annual Review which reports our activities during the 2009 academic year. We contemplate further globalization of the university and its contribution to the development of local communities. To achieve these goals, we carried out the following activities in the 2009 academic year. This April, the Research Center for Advanced Information Science and Technology (CAIST) was established in our university. At the CAIST, a research team called ”cluster” was respectively formed for three emphasized fields of research: Space Information Science and Technology, Local Environment, and Medical Engineering. In each cluster, the research will be promoted to meet social needs, based on the research in computer science and engineering. Already, Space cluster team succeeded in publishing a paper with JAXA, describing mineral distribution on the lunar surface, in a British science journal ”Nature”. In Environment cluster, three professors started to conduct research, in cooperation with the Department of Earth and Planetary Science in the University of Tokyo, Earth Simulator Center in Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology and National institute of Agro-Environmental Sciences. In Medical cluster, partnership between Fukushima Medical University and University of Aizu was established and a collaborative work started to support young medical doctors in rural areas by providing advanced medical knowledge through wearable machines under the grant of Fukushima Prefectural Government. We would like to make the best use of our research results for society and business/ industry. My best and warmest regards to all of you. November 19, 2010 Shigeaki Tsunoyama President |
