1. Applying to Research grants / fellowship programs for students

We will accept applications from students for research grant/fellowship program that require approval of the University of Aizu.

If the submission method is specified as "e-mail", please email opm@u-aizu.ac.jp with ALL completed documents required by the implementing institute by the internal deadline.

  • All documents are converted to a single PDF file.

    • The transcript of academic performance issued by our university is not required. You should obtain the transcript when you send the application files to the implementing institute.

    • Please leave blank the section that the university must fill in.

For programs that do not require approval or endorsement by the University of Aizu, such as required only recommendation from your supervisor, please apply for it individually.

1.2. Student who wish to apply for the TAF overseas travel expense assistance

The TAF offers travel grants (available throughout the year) for those who wish to apply for travel grants for overseas travel.

As of December 2023, the following regions have been established: Europe, North America (Eastern) and Canada, North America (Western), Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand, Southeast Asia, China, South Korea. Please check the requirements before preparing your application.

In addition, an application must be submitted at least two months prior to the date of the conference, etc. Please be sure to check the schedule in the latest guidelines.

2. To students who wish to apply

You can also apply for programs not listed here by following the instructions below.

It is the responsibility of each applicant to check the eligibility requirements, and please keep the following points in mind when applying.

  1. The internal deadline is two months before the last day of the deadline for programs that require selection and/or review process. (If the offer period is between 9/1 and 9/30, the internal deadline is 7/30.)

  2. One month in advance is the deadline for applications that require only a university recommendation with no selection and review process.

  3. If you have any questions about each program, please contact the implementing institute individually.

  4. Applicants are responsible for the packing and cost of sending documents, except for programs that have a quota for the number of applicants recommended by the university, or for programs that specify that the university must apply and send documents.

  5. Please note that submitted documents will be disclosed to the faculty member in charge of review.

  6. You will be notified of the results of the review within one month of the internal deadline.

  7. Translation of the application guidelines and application materials is the responsibility of the applicant.

  8. If you are selected, please let us know.

  9. If the provided grants must be controlled by the university account, please contact us after the adoption of the grant.

2.1. Mailing the application form

  • Applicants must submit their own applications if the aforementioned conditions are not met.

  • The standard delivery time for mailing to Tokyo is the day after tomorrow standard envelope rates. Also, since the fee varies depending on some factors, such as the weight of the envelope and its size, the envelope may be returned if there is insufficient fee.

  • We recommend using LetterPack Light (blue envelopes), which offers a flat rate and confirmed arrival. (370Yen as of 2023, details: JAPAN POST Official - Letter Pack) (※)

  • If you are posting on the day before the deadline(※※), please use LetterPack Plus (red envelope, 520Yen as of 2023).

  • You can purchase a Letter-Pack (Plus and Light) at the university kiosk (SLS), Lawson, post office, etc.

  • Please contact us so that we would like to use a mailing address label for you when you return the application form.
