1. JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship and Invitation Fellowships Guidelines for FY2026 【P】【L】【S】

All documents must be submitted through the online system. There is no need to submit printed papers.

The release of information for the 2025 application period has been advanced.

Beginning with the 2026 application, JSPS mentions the use of generative-AI to prepare applications. Be sure to check the JSPS application guidelines.

1.1. For postdocs and graduating doctoral students

Regarding the program [P], non-Japanese doctoral student who will graduate by April or non-Japanese postdoc researcher who has been conferred a doctoral degree can be the candidate. However, they are not eligible to apply for the other programs, [L] and [S], which require candidate to hold a full-time position at overseas institutes.

The applicant must be a faculty member, therefore a postdoctoral or a doctoral student should consult with your supervisor if you wish to apply for the program [P].

As of AY2022, new Security Export Control Regulations have been established for cooperation with overseas researchers and/or organizations. Please submit the pre-confirmation sheet after the project has been selected, so it is not necessary to submit it at the time of application submission.

1.2. Official JSPS Information and Application Guideline

Please compose application forms following instructions provided by JSPS.

1.3. Applicant

  • Only faculty members may submit applications. Only faculty members will be issued a login ID of the JSPS online system.

  • A student or postdoc person who wish to receive invitations should consult with your supervisor for acceptance and the submission of an application form.

1.4. Submission deadline

  1. Postdoctoral and Invitational Fellowship 1st recruitment [P,S] and Invitational Fellowship Long-term [L]: 17:00, Monday, August 18th, 2025

  2. Postdoctoral and Invitational Fellowship 2nd Recruitment [P,S]: 17:00, Friday, April 10th, 2026

1.5. Contact Information

If you do not receive a reply within two business days of sending the e-mail, please contact us for confirmation.

1.6. JSPS Online System

Please input all information and attach files on the JSPS online system by our deadline as noted above, and mark the application status (申請状況) as "Accepting by your institute (所属機関受付中)".

Please click on the "Login for applicant (申請者ログイン)" button.

JSPS provides three online systems, such as e-RAD, each system needs the different ID and password.

If an applicant does not have the ID to use this online system, please send an e-mail to the above address.

2. Notification of selection results

  • Expected notification date (August deadline): Late December

  • Expected notification date (April deadline): Middle of August

3. Restrictions on Parallel Application/Receipt

JSPS also stated the parallel application as follows.

3.1. Parallel Application by the Candidate (Invited overseas researcher)

Please confirm your candidate doesn’t apply for the JSPS program through other institute at the same period.

  1. As only one application is allowed per candidate (invited overseas researcher), applicants (host researchers) should verify in advance that no other applications have been submitted for the candidate.

  2. The same person may not simultaneously be a candidate (invited overseas researcher) for two or more kinds of fellowship programs under each recruitment.

  3. Candidates (invited overseas researchers) selected under the first recruitment for either [L] or [S] fellowships may not apply for an [S] fellowship under the second recruitment of the same fiscal year.

3.2. Parallel Application by the Applicant (Host researcher)

  1. For [P] and [PE] candidates (invited overseas researcher), under each recruitment one applicant (host researcher) may submit up to three applications. When parallel applications are submitted, the applicant (host researcher) should state the order of his/her priority.

  2. For [L] and [S] candidates (invited overseas researchers), application is limited to one candidate for each recruitment.

    • First recruitment: application is limited to one in either [L] or [S].

    • Second recruitment: regardless of whether or not an application was submitted in the first recruitment, application is limited to one in [S].

4. Selection Ratio

Recent selection ratio has been around 10%.

4.1. English Language Operation Assistance for Application Forms

The online system provides the function to translate on-screen text into English to aid in the operation. Pages of JSPS online system other than the application form are provided in Japanese only, so please refer to the document linked below for the procedure to use the English translation function.

Japanese must be entered for the sections with Japanese instructions, so please refer to the information below and use copy & paste or other methods.

4.2. Wording & Specific Terms

There are many cases of incorrectly entered affiliations and other information on the application form, so please refer to the information below.

Regarding host researcher and support system information, please fill in the form as follows. (Please copy and paste the bold Japanese text as is basis.)

  • Department (In Japanese) : コンピュータ理工学部

  • Department (In English): School of Computer Science and Engineering

  • Name given to the Fellow : 会津大学外国人研究者

  • Facility access (e.g. library): 与える/Yes

  • Lab space: できる/Yes

  • Other support: ある/Yes

  • (If there is any supporting systems in the institution provided for Fellows by international related department etc, enter their name and the contents.)

  • Prospect of Accommodations:: ない/No

※ Regarding the 「宿泊施設の見通し/Prospect of Accommodations」, we do not provide or arrange accommodations. If the applicant provides accommodations, such as own home, please select “Yes”.

4.2.3. Position

Regarding the position (job title), if you are senior associate professor, please select the Other from the drop-down menu, then fill in 上級准教授 in Japanese and Senior Associate Professor in English by hand.

If you are professor or associate professor, please select that from the drop-down menu.

4.3. PDF File Size

Applicant should upload the file in A4 size (210 mm × 27 mm) that complies with the ISO, set up each page with portrait orientation.
