1. RONPAKU Program Guidelines for AY2024

Please read the application guideline carefully and submit your application form on the JSPS online system.

Since AY2021, applicants need to submit all files via JSPS online system. Paper-based document submissions are no longer required, such as form-2 and recommendation letters.

AS of AY2022, new Security Export Control Regulations have been established for cooperation with overseas researchers and/or organizations. Please submit the pre-confirmation sheet after the project has been selected, so it is not necessary to submit it at the time of application submission.

1.2. Eligibility of Advisor in Japan

The candidate’s advisor in Japan must be a full-time professor, senior associate professor, or associate professor who, as of 1 April 2024, is engaged in implementing a doctoral course at the Japanese university to which the prospective RONPAKU fellow will submit his/her PhD thesis.

1.3. Eligibility of RONPAKU Fellow

The candidate must be a researcher

  1. Who has not obtained a PhD degree from a university

  2. Who wishes to obtain a PhD degree from a Japanese university through the submission of a dissertation

  3. Who has already achieved substantial research results and is likely through dissertation research under the program to successfully obtain a PhD degree, and who is nominated by a home advisor and the president of his/her affiliated university/research institution

  4. Who has nationality in an applicable country (listed in Section 3)

  5. Who is employed full time at a university or research institution in his/her home country or will be appointed to such a position by 1 April 2024

  6. Who is 45 years of age or younger as of 1 April 2024

You don’t need to print out your application forms for submission. Please attach your application form file on JSPS online system.

All application forms need to be compiled into a document and approved by our university president. Please submit your application documents by the deadline.

If you do not have an ID to use the online system, please let me know. (Note: JSPS provides three online systems. Therefore this system is different from e-Rad and needs a unique ID.)

You need to submit three types of application forms.

Form 1 consists of the online form (page 1 to 3) and a pdf or ms-word file (page 4 to 7), the pdf and ms-word files are provided on JSPS RONPAKU Program Application Info. Page. (FYI, here is the Form1 file (Page 4 to 7) with comments in English)

Form 2 needs to be asked the candidate to fill out.

Form 3 must be written by the candidate’s supervisor and the head of institution.

Since AY2021, all files are now submitted via JSPS online system, paper-based document submissions are no longer required.
